When selling a horse online, it’s important to ensure your advert appeals to the right type of buyer as well as avoiding online scammers. We’ve put together a few tips to help buying and selling horses online easier!

Buying

 

When buying a horse there are a lot of factors to take into consideration. If something looks too good to be true…it probably is! Here are some things to look out for:

  • Are the photos on the advert clear and do they ‘add up’ to the advert of the horse? If the photos aren’t, it could make the advert look like a scam
  • Does the advert have any photos of the horse being ridden? If youโ€™re looking to ride the horse, make sure you go and see the horse being ridden if your interested before you look at buying the horse or ask for a video of the horse being ridden
  • Is the description clear? Does it include everything you’re looking for?
  • Location ย – if the horse is far away from you, do you have the facilities to get to the horse and bring it back?
  • Always go and see the horse before buying it to make sure the advert is legitimate. This way it will allow you to ask any questions you may have about the horse.
  • Is there a price on the advert? If so, is everything included which is in the advert. If the price is too good to be true there may be some underlying factors you can’t see!

Selling

 

Painting your horse in the best possible light will increase your chances of selling your horse quickly. Below are 5 essential things to include within your advert.

 

  • Make sure the advert has a good title which stands out, not just “horse for sale” as no one will know anything about the horse. Having a title like “Stunning showjumper with huge potential” makes the advert more appealing to potential buyers and also gives a bit more information about the horse.
  • Pick good quality photos which gives a clear view of the horse and their ability, this will also help the ad look a lot nicer, rather than picking a blurry photo which doesn’t give you many views of the horse.
  • Writing a good description is key. Letting the potential buyer know as much about the horse allows them to get a feel for what the horse’s characteristics are like and some of the history of the horse, this will save you both time and money!
  • Make sure the price is clear. If the buyer doesn’t see a price or just POA it will lessen the chances of them being interested. If the price includes any tack, rugs or equipment this in too!
  • Adding a video into your advert allows buyers to see how the horse moves, saving buyers time and money coming to see the horse in person.
